Alea Casino Granted Permission for a New Entry Tower
9 August 2022
Alea Casino’s distinctive façade resides in the heart of Glasgow, soaring into its grey-hued skyline. Completed in 2008, the project cost eight million pounds to build and now houses one of the city’s premier entertainment venues. It rests on the banks of the Clyde like a beached leviathan, risen from the water and placed there by a benevolent poker-playing god.
For those with an appreciation for architecture, it’s an iconic part of the Glaswegian landscape. Open from 12 noon until six am, it sees throngs of guests through its doors daily, focused on enjoying not only the premium gaming on offer but its riverside restaurant and choice of bars.
Now, excitingly, it’s about to become even more pleasing to the eye with the addition of a new entrance tower. Below, we look at what Threesixty Architecture has planned for it.
A world-class gaming venue
In 2022, the casino industry remains as resilient as ever. Research shows that around 26 per cent of the population partake in the pastime, bringing in billions of pounds every year. Many of the venues that house these establishments also have other leisure facilities to bolster their income, from bars and eateries to in-house cinemas and sports centres.
It’s not only offline gambling that’s popular: the online industry has soared too. It’s now so widespread that there are dozens of specialist directory sites dedicated to sharing offers and bonuses with internet punters. These rank, rate, and review providers so consumers can ensure their reputability and guarantee a great gaming experience. You can see an example by following this original link and looking through the numerous promotions and providers listed.
Research suggests this growing internet industry is helping shore up its more traditional counterpart by making gaming accessible and allowing a wider number of people to experience it. This then encourages them to visit brick-and-mortar casinos to try their favourite games offline or as an experience that can be shared with friends.
This is something Alea Casino and its counterparts are happy to facilitate. Offering world-class gaming options, the venue is spread over two luxurious floors. As well as providing customers with table games and slots, it houses a waterfront restaurant, sports bar, and more for an all-inclusive entertainment experience.
A new and iconic entranceway
Alea Casino is no one’s idea of outdated. With its three-storey atrium and unique waveform structure, it stands in stark contrast to the sombre Glaswegian skyline. Soon, though, it will look more impressive again.
That’s because ThreeSixty Architecture has been granted planning permission to revamp the site. Their proposal will see all gaming facilities consolidated on one floor and the lower level transformed into a new leisure unit.
In addition, a fresh access tower will be incorporated. The idea is to create an exclusive arrival experience to usher punters through the door and into the lavish interior. This feature entrance is intended to add both branding opportunities and a sense of character and uniqueness to the exterior.
Envisaged to be elegant and arresting, the proposed stair tower has been described as a “glowing lantern” that will act as a beacon visible across the city, hopefully drawing punters like moths to a flame.
A final date for completion is yet to be provided.
