Development Friendly City in Scotland: Architectural Development in Strathclyde
post updated 9 September 2023
Cllr Purcell, speaking at a McGrigors seminar said:
“…I want Glasgow to be the most development friendly city in the UK. This ambition has been the driving force behind our efforts to improve the planning process, under our Fast Track scheme. I know that planning is often an issue of major contention. In recent years, we have improved our performance in this area….Still, I am not yet satisfied, which is why we have our new policy.
Glasgow City Council Planning Development
We believed we needed a more considered approach to how we deal with major applications, to ensure unnecessary delays do not stop investment coming into the city. This process has been approved by the council and is currently being used in ten projects across the city….Firstly, we are more clearly outlining what is meant by major developments and ensuring that these receive more support.
This includes internal processes to speed up responses from all relevant departments, and the appointment of a lead officer to oversee the application….We are also creating a one stop shop for development consents, bringing staff together on a range of issues under our Development and Regeneration Services department.”
