Guerrilla Lighting At Radiance Glasgow
Under the guidance of the team leaders, members take part in creating transient lighting designs by using torches, filters and gobos. Instructed to be in a specific position and at a given distance from their target, the teams simultaneously light up various aspects of the city’s architecture, creating a wonderful spectacles spectacle.
The teams are made up of local lighting designers, architects, interior designers and manufacturers, all of whom are keen to draw attention to the possibilities, and importance of, lighting in the urban environment. Guerrilla lighting events are designed to challenge people’s perception of the city and inspire a new thinking within the industry circles. This event is organised by BDP’s Lighting Group.
‘Celebrate’ Poem
Therese Shiban BDP’s writer in residence since 2005 has written Built Light for Guerrilla Lighting Glasgow – a site specific architectural lighting project created for Glasgow’s Radiance Festival 2007. Theresa asked BDP lighting colleagues — and architecture students of Strathclyde University — for words about light. The words could be descriptive, technical, or emotional. She then wrote the poem using these words, plus a handful of linking words.
In addition, she wrote fragmentary poems for each of the five sites used in Guerrilla Lighting — using words the students had chosen inspired by those sites. These fragments will be written in light and also photographed at the appropriate sites during the Guerrilla Lighting evening, and projected during the festival with the results of Guerrilla Lighting Glasgow.
