New Glasgow Headquarters Building for Scottish Power
ScottishPower has struck a deal with asset manager M&G Investments to fund the construction of its new Glasgow headquarters. M&G, which invests funds on behalf of individuals and institutions, is to provide £113 million in finance for the development after working with ScottishPower and its development partner Helical Bar.
Work on the building, which will be able to accommodate up to 1900 staff, will begin later this year. The office is expected to be ready for staff in late 2015. London-based M&G has acquired the land on India Street and St Vincent Street on a freehold basis, and will initially lease the property to ScottishPower for 25 years with annual reviews linked to inflation.

Scottish Power has received approval to build its new £100m headquarters in Glasgow’s city centre.
The firm’s UK base will accommodate 1,900 more staff when work is completed in two years’ time.
Planning approval to relocate from its current HQ in the city’s South Side to the corner of St Vincent Street and India Street was granted earlier this week and work is expected to begin later this year on a 14-storey block. The development will be erected on a derelict site which was previously used as the HQ of Strathclyde Regional Council.
Scottish Power Chairman, Ignacio Galan, said:
He said: “As a global energy company, our operations are focused in the UK, US, Brazil, Mexico and Spain with Scotland and the UK being a key focus for our investment plans. We are investing £4 billion between now and 2014 in the UK – representing 40% of our global investments – with two-thirds of this investment planned for Scotland. It is vital that we have the office infrastructure in place to support our teams who will be delivering this investment. We are delighted to be committing to remain headquartered in Glasgow, a city that has been home to Scottish Power for decades.”
The planning application for the relocation was lodged just before Christmas.

Scottish Power is to build a new 14-storey headquarters in Glasgow city centre housing about 1,500 staff.
PagePark Architects has collaborated with Ortis Leon Architects from Madrid.
Work on the office complex, located on the corner of St Vincent Street and India Street, is due to start in 2013 with completion targeted for late 2015.
It will replace other office locations in Falkirk, and Glasgow.
The site was previously home to the former Strathclyde Regional Council. In 2008, a planned skyscraper project was dropped after the financial crisis.
Scottish Power said that Helical Bar, with Scots-based partner Dawn Developments, was the preferred developer for the new building.
It is understood that the project is worth about £80m, with Scottish Power agreeing a 25-year lease agreement to occupy the new complex. The energy firm already owns the land. 5 Sep
