Victoria Park Gardens South
Cameron Webster Architects were appointed to design additional family space, kitchen and study to an existing semi-detached stone villa in Glasgow’s west end, built around 1900, at Victoria Park Gardens South.
With the rear of the building facing north, the design for the extension incorporates an angled roof with continuous frameless glazing to capture the evening sun and maximize the light within the kitchen and family space.
The slope of the garden has been cut back to allow a generous terrace outside the glazed kitchen wall, and the kitchen worktop and appliances are aligned along the party wall, together with a central island unit to achieve an efficient working area. Accessed off the existing dining room, the extension benefits from an additional utility area, providing a new entrance to the rear of the property.
This has created a beautifully lit space for informal family life, that relates well to the existing house and to the mature garden. The exterior of the extension is zinc clad with insulated render and creates a modern and stylish addition to this Victorian family house.
